French River Landscape, Bois-le-Roi
Artwork: Painted in 1877, French River Landscape, Bois-le-Roi captures the peaceful banks of the Seine near the village of Bois-le-Roi, a favorite destination for nineteenth-century landscape painters. Carl Fredrik Hill combines luminous natural light, rich foliage, and reflective water to create a composition that celebrates the quiet beauty of the French countryside.
Artist: Carl Fredrik Hill (1849–1911) was a Swedish landscape painter whose work was profoundly influenced by the French Barbizon School and the emerging Impressionists. Celebrated for his expressive brushwork and sensitive treatment of light, Hill produced some of the most admired landscape paintings of the nineteenth century before illness brought his outdoor painting career to an early end.
Curator's Notes: During his years in France, Hill developed a deeply personal approach to landscape painting that balanced careful observation with expressive freedom. In French River Landscape, Bois-le-Roi, the gentle reflections, soft atmosphere, and harmonious composition reveal an artist who found profound beauty in the quiet rhythms of nature.
Paper: All physical prints are produced on Hahnemühle German Etching 310 gsm fine-art paper.
