Artist: Jean François Raffaëlli (1850–1924) was a French painter, printmaker, and sculptor celebrated for his cityscapes, landscapes, and scenes of everyday life in Paris. Although best known for portraying the people and streets of the French capital, he also created architectural views distinguished by their atmospheric light, refined composition, and keen observation.
Curator's Notes: Raffaëlli understood that the beauty of Paris lies not only in its monuments but also in the relationship between architecture, river, and daily life. In this view, Notre-Dame rises gracefully beyond the Seine, while the Pont de l'Archevêché provides a natural foreground, creating a composition that celebrates one of the city's most enduring and beloved landmarks.
